Karate Belts

Karate Belts are used to show student's progress, each colour representing each stage of your Karate learning, culminating in the award of the prestigious Karate Black Belt. Coloured belts are used in all karate styles, whether you practise Shotokan, Wado Ryu, Goju Ryu or any of the other popular karate styles.

As with many of the popular martial arts, Karate belts were introduced as it spread into the Western world. Students wanted to see how they were progressing, and therefore the Karate belt system was designed, and has been largely unchanged since.

Some systems have introduced striped karate belts, so you progress between colours at a more controlled speed. Whichever Karate belt system is used, they all point to the same goal, the black belt.
